Welcome to my ePortfolio
My name is Lucy Butler and I am currently completing my final year of Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary).
As an educator of the future, I will perpetually aim to be the best I can be; a high quality teacher. A high quality teacher has a wealth of knowledge and rich resources, a positive attitude, the respect of their students, co-workers and school community, finds time for reflection, and constantly aims higher for the benefit of their students.
When I began reflecting on each standard within the Victorian Institute of Teaching, it became apparent that not only is each standard individually fundamental to becoming a high quality teacher, but all the standards intertwine and are strongly influenced by one another. For example, a teacher cannot plan and assess for effective learning (Standard four) without knowing the content they are teaching (Standard two), knowing the students and building the crucial student-teacher relationship (Standard three) and understanding pedagogical practices and how students learn (Standard one).
This website is designed to demonstrate my ability to achieve six of the Victorian Institute of Teaching's eight Standards for Graduate Teachers. Standards seven and eight I believe will be sufficiently achieved during my first few years as a graduate teacher. There are multiple pieces of evidence I have collected to affirm my professional practice. Additionally, I discuss why I believe each individual standard should be achieved to be regarded as a high quality educator and their importance in achieving student outcomes.
